Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Seeger's Winning Streak

Seeger and Western Boone squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Seeger had to settle for second. They took a 55-37 bruising from the Western Boone Stars. The Patriots were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Stars earlier this season, when they won 56-53.

Despite the loss, Seeger saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jack Cole shot 45% from the field to rack up 15 points. Peyton Grimmett was another key player, putting up two points and six rebounds.

Western Boone's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcus Fortner, who posted 12 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Westerfeld, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

With the defeat, Seeger broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points over those games. As for Western Boone, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-14.

Seeger does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Western Boone, they will square off against Wapahani at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wapahani is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.
