Baseball Preview: Trico Pioneers vs. Gibault Catholic Hawks

Trico is 0-3 against Gibault Catholic since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Trico Pioneers will head out on the road to face off against the Gibault Catholic Hawks at 4:30 p.m.

Trico is is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 15-5 walloping at the hands of Goreville.

Ty Doerner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Beau Koehn was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Gibault Catholic entered their tilt with Sparta with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Bulldogs on Monday.

Gibault Catholic also got a great performance from Jj Kinsey as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Robert Pierpoint and Peyton Schaefer did most of the damage at the plate: Pierpoint scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Schaefer scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jack Keeven, who went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two RBI.

Trico's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Gibault Catholic, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-14.
