Basketball Game Preview: Florence Gophers vs. Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets

The Florence Gophers and the Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Florence has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Blue Ridge will arrive with three straight wins.

On Thursday, Florence had to suffer through a 58-8 loss at the hands of Payson. The contest marked the Gophers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Blue Ridge). Everything went their way against Holbrook on Thursday as Blue Ridge made off with a 60-39 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Yellow Jackets have posted since February 13th.

Blue Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Florence, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Florence took their win against Blue Ridge when the teams last played back in December of 2019 by a conclusive 65-41. In that game, Florence amassed a halftime lead of 44-20, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
