Basketball Recap: Homer-Center Skates Past Purchase Line with Ease

Homer-Center won the last time they faced Purchase Line and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Homer-Center Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Purchase Line Red Dragons 71-39. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 330th, while the Red Dragons are ranked 669th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Homer-Center had a senior duo take command as Angelo Alexander dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards and Max Voyda went 6 of 10 en route to 19 points and six rebounds. Alexander has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jordy Arone also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Homer-Center was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Purchase Line only posted seven assists.

Despite the defeat, Purchase Line saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacob Stein posted 13 points. The dominant performance gave Stein a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jakob Mountain, who earned six points and four steals.

The win made it two in a row for Homer-Center and bumps their season record up to 13-7. As for Purchase Line, their loss was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-16.

Homer-Center will venture away from home to square off against Marion Center at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Marion Center knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Homer-Center likes a good challenge. As for Purchase Line, they will host Penns Manor at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
