Softball Recap: Orthopaedic Sets Scoring Season-High Against Downtown Magnets

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Orthopaedic). They blew past the Downtown Magnets Suns 35-1 on Monday. The Vipers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Brianna Ramirez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Orthopaedic got a massive performance out of Elizabeth Ajin, who went 5-for-6 with one home run, seven stolen bases, and five runs. That home run was Ajin's first of the season. Daniela Ceja was another key player, getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances with one home run, nine stolen bases, and five runs.

Orthopaedic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .889. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

The win made it two in a row for Orthopaedic and bumps their season record up to 8-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Downtown Magnets, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Orthopaedic will head out on the road to face off against Annenberg at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Downtown Magnets, they will be playing at home against USC-MAE at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Suns will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least ten runs in their last five games.
