Softball Recap: Madison Wins Going Away Against Freedom

Madison won the last time they faced Freedom and things went their way on Wednesday too. Madison put the hurt on Freedom with a sharp 14-2 win. Considering Madison has won six matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Carrie Gunter spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Madison let Maddie Gosnell and Ezra Reed run wild. Gosnell scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Reed scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Gosnell also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addie Sams, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

The victory made it two in a row for Madison and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Freedom, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Madison will take on Draughn at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Freedom, they will venture away from home to take on Hibriten at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
