Basketball Game Preview: Digital Pioneers Academy Pythons vs. McKinley Tech Trainers

The Digital Pioneers Academy Pythons and the McKinley Tech Trainers will round out the year against one another at at 5:40 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

McKinley Tech is hoping to do what BASIS couldn't last Thursday: put an end to Digital Pioneers Academy's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Digital Pioneers Academy simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat BASIS 72-29. The Pythons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 22 points or more this season.

Digital Pioneers Academy relied on the efforts of Donte Taylor, who went 11 of 14 en route to 22 points and eight rebounds, and Imran Buttt, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 19 points and seven boards. Buttt is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Borders, who posted six points along with five boards and four steals.

Digital Pioneers Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, McKinley Tech beat Southern Maryland Christian Academy 63-58 on Saturday. Given the Trainers' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked seventh in District of Columbia, while the Mustangs are ranked 50th in Maryland), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Digital Pioneers Academy pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28.6 points. As for McKinley Tech, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.
