Basketball Recap: Taelyn Smith and Abby Wendte Secure Win for Notre Dame De Sion

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bishop Miege, Notre Dame de Sion was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 68-59 victory over the University Academy Charter Gryphons. With that win, the Storm brought their scoring average up to 50.7 points per game.

Notre Dame de Sion was led to victory by Abby Wendte and Taelyn Smith. Wendte posted 15 points and five steals, while Smith earned 17 points and eight boards. Wendte has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Mya Verdugo was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Notre Dame de Sion has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points over those games. As for University Academy Charter, they dropped their record down to 9-6 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Notre Dame de Sion didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-34 victory against Platte Valley co-op [South Nodaway/Jefferson] on the 15th. University Academy Charter has also already played their next matchup (against Pembroke Hill), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
