Basketball Recap: Pojoaque Valley Piles Up the Points Against Moriarty

Pojoaque Valley came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 67-23 victory over the Moriarty Pintos. The Elks/Elkettes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 22 points or more this season.

Pojoaque Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mario Baros, who posted nine points and four steals. Baros is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Gonzales, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 10 points.

Pojoaque Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Pojoaque Valley pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points over those games. As for Moriarty, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season.

Coincidentally, Pojoaque Valley and Moriarty will both be playing Los Alamos the next time they take the court. Pojoaque Valley will host Los Alamos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Moriarty will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
