Softball Game Preview: Desert Christian Eagles vs. Willcox Cowboys

For the second straight game, Desert Christian will face off against Willcox. The Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Cowboys at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Desert Christian has given up an average of 11.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Things were looking good for Desert Christian after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 22-8 to Willcox. The Eagles have struggled against the Cowboys recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

For Willcox's part, Nataly Thompson was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most runs Thompson has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Karlie St Clair, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Willcox always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .738. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .667 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Willcox pushed their record up to 16-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.2 runs. As for Desert Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.

Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Desert Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Willcox struggles in that department as they've averaged .434. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
