Baseball Recap: Century Triumphs

Century took a nine-run loss the last time they faced off against Mankato West, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Scarlets on Thursday, sneaking past 9-7. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Scarlets on their field since May 9, 2019.

Owen Kelly was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Brady Buchmann, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Century kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Century is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Mankato West fell to 6-1.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Century is set to challenge their familiar foe Owatonna at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mankato West will square off against rival John Marshall at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
