Even more: Linebacker Palaie Gaoteote (58) and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (77) are among the top recruits from the Class of 2018. Thompson-Robinson will see a lot of passes at wide receiver, as will returning starter Jalen Nailor.

Briefly: Also on Gorman's schedule is No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas in Las Vegas Sept. 30, No. 9 St. John Bosco at Long Beach City College on Sept. 9 and defending Hawaii state champion Kahuku Sept. 16 in Las Vegas. … Gorman might have been No. 1 had 5-star wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey not transferred to Centennial (Corona, Calif.). … Gorman has won seven straight large-school state titles. … The team returns 15 starters, eight on defense. …. Martell, nicknamed Mini Manziel because of his elusiveness, decommitted from Texas A&M in April.
