Softball Game Preview: Woodruff Wolverines vs. Chapman Panthers

The Woodruff Wolverines will face off against the Chapman Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Woodruff has seven straight victories, Chapman has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Woodruff's win against Mountain View Prep wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines never let the Stars get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chapman came up short against Union County on Tuesday and fell 6-1.

Alexis Floyd spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chapman saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paisleigh Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Woodruff's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Chapman, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.

Woodruff beat Chapman 8-5 in their previous meeting on April 1st. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
