Basketball Game Preview: Fort Chiswell Pioneers vs. Grayson County Blue Devils

The Fort Chiswell Pioneers will head out to square off against the Grayson County Blue Devils at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Fort Chiswell is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Fort Chiswell will head into Friday's contest hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 21) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Bland County 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pioneers have posted since January 22, 2024.

Fort Chiswell found their leader in freshman Owen Jackson, who went 8 for 20 en route to 27 points along with six boards and three steals. The game was Jackson's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Billings, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points and eight rebounds.

Fort Chiswell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grayson County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They breezed by Giles to the tune of 53-11 on Friday. That looming 53-11 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Blue Devils yet this season.

Fort Chiswell's record now sits at 9-4. As for Grayson County, their record now sits at 3-6.

Fort Chiswell was dealt a bruising 66-28 defeat at the hands of Grayson County in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Fort Chiswell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
