Softball Recap: O'connor Snaps 16-Game Streak of Wins at Home

O'Connor dropped their record down to 21-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 16-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Dripping Springs Tigers by a score of 3-2. The Panthers were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but the Tigers' pitcher proved too tough.

Faith Mayfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Isabella Sierra was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Meiko Dominguez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Dripping Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Dripping Springs' side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Sadie Bradford gave up just two earned runs on four hits.

At the plate, Dripping Springs secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Lorelei Gamble, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

While O'Connor had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
