Soccer Game Preview: Mariner vs. Gateway

The Mariner Tritons will take on the Gateway Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mariner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.8 goals per game this season.

If Gateway heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Mariner took over last week. Mariner came out on top against River Ridge by a score of 3-1 on Friday. Given the Tritons' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Royal Knights are ranked 68th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mariner hit River Ridge with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Neil Zela, Alessandro Gonzalez, and Jeovani Castro.

Meanwhile, Gateway kept a clean sheet against Aubrey Rogers on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Patriots out 1-0.

Gateway is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4-3 record this season. As for Mariner, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Mariner was able to grind out a solid victory over Gateway in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 2-0. Does Mariner have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gateway turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
