Preview: Southlake Carroll Dragons vs. Byron Nelson Bobcat
Southlake Carroll is 7-1 against Byron Nelson since October of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Southlake Carroll Dragons are on the road again and play against the Byron Nelson Bobcat at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Southlake Carroll walked away with it. They breezed by the Scots on the road to the tune of 45-14. Considering Southlake Carroll has won 12 games by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Southlake Carroll found their leader in underclassman Davis Penn, who rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Riley Wormley was another key contributor, rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Southlake Carroll's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Dustan Mark and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Byron Nelson put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 52-45 win over Coppell.
Tom Von grote was on fire: he threw for 279 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Farco, who picked up 162 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 12-1.
Things could have been worse for Southlake Carroll, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 34-17 loss to Byron Nelson in their previous matchup back in October. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Byron Nelson's Tucker James, who rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown.
