League recap: Arleta extends winning streak with victory over Monroe

Arleta extended the longest winning streak in East Valley this week by beating Monroe, 54-8. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Verdugo Hills took down Chavez 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Mark Powell threw for 253 yards and five touchdowns and ran for nine yards in the win.

The Dons' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Tyler Riggs chipped in 101 yards. Daniel Soto helped Verdugo Hills' passing attack out by catching three balls for 66 yards.

Josh Riggs was the best wideout in the league this week as Verdugo Hills defeated Chavez. Riggs tallied two receptions for 86 yards.

The Vikings' Luis Dorame and Antjuan Farmer have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Dorame has thrown for 1581 yards this season, while Farmer, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 49 catches for 880 yards. John Wallace's team's Riggs leads the league in rushing yards with 493.

The top two teams in East Valley will face off this week when first place Arleta takes on second place North Hollywood. Arleta bested Monroe last week, while North Hollywood beat Grant.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Huskies take on Dan Kelley's team. North Hollywood has allowed 98 points this season, while the Mustangs have given up 48. Doug Bledsoe's team allowed 6 points last week as it topped the Lancers.

The Dons led the league in scoring this week after putting up 54 points on Chavez. Powell in the win.
