Preview: Serra Cavaliers vs. Alemany Warriors
Serra is 7-1 against Alemany since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Serra Cavaliers will be playing at home against the Alemany Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Serra and Sierra Canyon (ranked 85 and 22 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile matchup. Serra took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sierra Canyon on Friday. Serra's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jimmy Butler, who rushed for ten yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 203 yards and a touchdown. Zacharyus Williams was another key contributor, picking up 112 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Serra's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 7.5 sacks. Sierra Canyon's QB won't forget Noa Keohuloa anytime soon given Keohuloa sacked him eight times.
Meanwhile, Alemany's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Notre Dame (SO) on the road and fell 42-6. While losing is never fun, Alemany can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Notre Dame (SO) is ranked 49th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Nigel Epperson, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Serra's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Alemany, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Serra has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 420.7 total yards per game. It's a different story for Alemany, though, as they've been averaging only 243.6 per game. Will Serra be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Alemany flip the ?
