Baseball Recap: Texico Comes Up Short

Texico had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it nine. They lost 15-1 to the Eunice Cardinals. The match marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

As for Eunice, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by seven runs or more this season.

For Eunice's part, Elijah Melancon looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Melancon has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrez Serrano was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tyson Coy, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Texico will face off against Tularosa at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Eunice, they will be playing at home against Loving at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
