Basketball Recap: Fleming Island Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Fleming Island came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Clay Blue Devils as they made off with a 79-59 victory. The Golden Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Fleming Island got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kameron Baskin out in front who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists. The dominant performance gave Baskin a new career-high in assists. Carson Crawford was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Fleming Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Fleming Island pushed their record up to 19-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 19.9 points. As for Clay, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-14.

Fleming Island won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Buchholz at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fleming Island has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Clay, they will take on Orange Park on Wednesday.
