Softball Recap: Barstow's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Barstow had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Victor Valley Jackrabbits on Wednesday as they made off with a 21-3 win. The match marked the Aztecs' most dominant victory of the season.

Izabella Ayala made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Barstow let Riley Purdy and Mia-Cali Zamora run wild. Purdy fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3, while Zamora went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave Zamora a new career-high in RBI (four). Emily Franco was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Barstow always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .838. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Barstow picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 4-11. As for Victor Valley, they are on a 25-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Barstow will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Jackrabbits: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
