Baseball Recap: Guilderland's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

It's playoff time, and Guilderland had no trouble coming through when it counted. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Shenendehowa Plainsmen on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Flying Dutchmen as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Christian Walsh made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Guilderland is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-15 otherwise. Walsh was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

Walsh wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Travis Berschwinger, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Guilderland's win bumped their record up to 4-15. As for Shenendehowa, they dropped their record down to 11-9 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

As of now, neither Guilderland nor the Plainsmen have any future games scheduled.
