National Cathedral hasn't had much luck against Flint Hill recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. National Cathedral will venture away from home to challenge Flint Hill at 4:15 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, National Cathedral had just enough and edged out Sidwell Friends 5-4. National Cathedral hasn't had any issues with Sidwell Friends recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Ryan Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, National Cathedral saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andie Gerson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave Gerson a new career-high. Another was Viola Sinbondit, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Flint Hill got themselves on the board against Georgetown Visitation Prep on Tuesday, but Georgetown Visitation Prep never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cubs with a sharp 6-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.
Cate Stanley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. Stanley was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Lauren Freireich was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Zaina Gilbert was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
The win got National Cathedral back to even at 1-1. As for Flint Hill, their record is now 2-0.
National Cathedral came out on top in a nail-biter against Flint Hill in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for National Cathedral since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
