Preview: Homefires Flames vs. Illinois Central Christian Lions
The Homefires Flames's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Illinois Central Christian Lions at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Homefires pushed their score all the way to 55 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of First Baptist Christian by a score of 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Homefires has suffered yet this season.
Colin Chesnut put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 31 points. That was a full 56.4% of Homefires' points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Reagan Rademacher was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Illinois Central Christian suffered their biggest loss yet this season back in December of 2023. They took a serious blow against Westfair Christian, falling 60-21. Illinois Central Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-11.
Homefires has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Illinois Central Christian, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Homefires came out on top in a nail-biter against Illinois Central Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, sneaking past 55-52. The rematch might be a little tougher for Homefires since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
