Basketball Recap: Archbishop Ryan Falls Despite Big Games from Brandon Russell and Malik Hughes

Archbishop Ryan was the 69-58 winner over Father Judge when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Archbishop Ryan Raiders and Ragdolls lost 79-59 to the Father Judge Crusaders on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Raiders and Ragdolls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Crusaders are ranked second).

Archbishop Ryan's loss came despite strong showings from Malik Hughes and Brandon Russell. Hughes almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds, while Russell went 7 for 15 on his way to 22 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The contest was Hughes' third in a row with at least ten points.

Archbishop Ryan now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Father Judge, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Archbishop Ryan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 69-56 defeat against Devon Prep on the 3rd. Father Judge has also already played their next contest, an 83-79 loss against Archbishop Carroll on the 3rd.
