Volleyball Recap: Pettisville Starts Season with Win at Home

Pettisville took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Antwerp Archers. The Blackbirds were shut out 3-0 the last time they took on the Archers, so the Blackbirds were just returning the favor.

Pettisville's got stronger as the match went on, holding Antwerp to fewer and fewer points set over set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-11, 25-10.

Pettisville was led to victory by Grace Hastings and Ava Hockenberry. Hastings had six digs and two aces, while Hockenberry had 14 digs and two aces. Hastings has been hot for a while, having also posted 19 or more assists the last 25 times she's played.

They weren't the only good server: Pettisville was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 15 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Pettisville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against North Central on the 19th. As for Antwerp, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Kalida on the 18th.
