Softball Recap: Cesar Chavez's Win Ends Ten-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cesar Chavez). They blew past the South Mountain Jaguars 27-8 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Esmeralda White made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Mariah Flores was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nevaeha Giacoletti, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Cesar Chavez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 2.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.

Cesar Chavez's victory ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-12. As for South Mountain, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-10.

Looking ahead, Cesar Chavez will venture away from home to square off against Browne at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Champions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for South Mountain, they will host Washington at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
