Baseball Game Preview: Port Isabel Tarpons vs. Valley View Tigers

The Port Isabel Tarpons will take on the Valley View Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Port Isabel has struggled recently with 18 defeats in a row, while Valley View will arrive with four straight victories.

Friday just wasn't the day for Port Isabel's offense. They came up short against La Feria on Friday, falling 17-0.

Meanwhile, Valley View narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Grulla 2-1.

David Justice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Emiliano Rodriguez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Jose Martinez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Valley View's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Port Isabel, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
