Head-Royce had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Montgomery Vikings a 1-0 shutout on Wednesday. The one-run effort marked the Jayhawks' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Head-Royce's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mikael Akpala, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits Akpala has posted since back in March.

Head-Royce hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montgomery struck out 12 times.

Head-Royce pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Montgomery, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-15.

Looking ahead, Head-Royce will face off against American Canyon on Saturday. Montgomery does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
