Millington is 7-1 against Garber since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cardinals will welcome the Dukes at 4:00 p.m. Millington will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Millington is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Atherton get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Tuesday. Considering the Cardinals have won 13 matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Lilly Damm, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Kamyrn Blackmer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Millington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Garber fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Ithaca on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets.
Kara Kotenko spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ava Wagner was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3.
Millington pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Garber, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-14.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Millington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Garber struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Millington was able to grind out a solid victory over Garber when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 4-1. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Dukes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
