The Magnolia Sentinels are taking a road trip to face off against the Loara Saxons at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Magnolia will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
On Friday, Magnolia got the win against Santa Ana Valley by a conclusive 17-5. With that win, the Sentinels brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Gabe Segura made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Segura was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Magnolia: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 5-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Magnolia got a massive performance out of Jacob Moniz, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Moniz is becoming a predictor of the Sentinels' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Hernandez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Magnolia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .717. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Loara waltzed into their match on Friday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They never let the Pioneers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Saxons have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Loara's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Magnolia, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9.
Magnolia suffered a grim 22-3 defeat to Loara in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can the Sentinels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
