Softball Recap: Maryvale Prep Matador vs. Bagdad Sultans

Maryvale Prep extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-4-1. They lost 28-5 to the Bagdad Sultans. The Matador were not able to make up for their loss to the Sultans from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Emma Basurto made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season. Jasmine Acuna was another key player, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Bagdad, the victory snapped their losing streak at eight games and leaves them with a 4-10 record. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Bagdad's side, they let Jasmine Mendez and Brenley Keil run wild. Mendez went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI, while Keil went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave Keil a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dezirae Landers, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Maryvale Prep will face off against Fountain Hills at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bagdad, they will square off against Desert Heights Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Sultans will need to watch out since the Coyotes have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
