Manheim Township hasn't had much luck against Lampeter-Strasburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Blue Streaks are taking a road trip to take on the Pioneers at 4:15 p.m. Manheim Township is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Manheim Township made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Penn Manor, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blue Streaks fell just short of the Comets by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Blue Streaks have suffered since April 17, 2024.
Meanwhile, Lampeter-Strasburg made easy work of Conestoga Valley on Wednesday and carried off a 12-2 win. Considering the Pioneers have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Paige Baxter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Lampeter-Strasburg got a big performance out of Natalie Hill, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Mack, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Lampeter-Strasburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.
Lampeter-Strasburg is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Manheim Township, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Manheim Township hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Lampeter-Strasburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manheim Township suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Lampeter-Strasburg when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Blue Streaks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
