Two dominant backs in Evan Moreno and Jaden Simpson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Robinson Rockets will square off against the Madisonville Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Robinson made easy work of China Spring and carried off a 33-7 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Rockets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Cougars are ranked 385th).

A big part of Robinson's victory came down to the chemistry between Brice McCurdy and his top target Dylan Medlock. McCurdy threw for 251 yards and two TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt while Medlock picked up 177 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 251 passing yards gave McCurdy a new career-high.
Robinson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards in 13 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Madisonville took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-10 win over Giddings. The Mustangs pushed the score to 49-3 by the end of the third, a deficit the Buffaloes cut but never quite recovered from.
Robinson better focus on containing Carmelo Gilbert and Tristan Whaley as the pair were huge in Madisonville's win. Gilbert rushed for 106 yards and two scores on only nine carries, while Whaley picked up 114 receiving yards and one TD.
Madisonville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Kyus Ford, Kedirck Moffett, and Ely Williams picked up one apiece.
Madisonville's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4. As for Robinson, their record now sits at 8-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Robinson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 260.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Madisonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 305.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Robinson couldn't quite get it done against Madisonville in their previous meeting back in October of 2023 as they fell 27-14. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
