Baseball Recap: Starpoint Spartans vs. Sweet Home Panthers
Starpoint extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They fell 6-2 to the Sweet Home Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 on Wednesday.
NICK PREZIOSO made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
As for Sweet Home, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.
On Sweet Home's side, Rocco Panepinto made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Panepinto a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Joe VanDusen was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tom Caruana, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Coming up, Starpoint will take on Williamsville East at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sweet Home, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-10 defeat against Frontier on the 3rd.
