Baseball Recap: Mendon Drops Highest Score of Season Against Bellevue

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mendon). They blew past the Bellevue Broncos 13-2 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Broncos: they've now won three in a row.

Brayden Crites made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mendon's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Crites was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Xavior Zinsmaster was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Jerry Batten, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Mendon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mendon's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Bellevue, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Mendon will challenge Athens at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.11 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bellevue, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burr Oak at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.25 runs per game on average), something the Broncos will no doubt try to take advantage of.
