Preview: Velma Jackson Falcons vs. Nanih Waiya Warriors

The Velma Jackson Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Nanih Waiya Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Two weeks ago, Velma Jackson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to McAdams. Velma Jackson has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Nanih Waiya came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 51-44 win over McAdams. Given Nanih Waiya's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while McAdams is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nyshea Hoskin was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with five steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Nanih Waiya's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexzandria Eiland, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and eight steals.

Velma Jackson has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Nanih Waiya, their win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2.

Velma Jackson was taken down by Nanih Waiya 64-32 in their previous meeting on January 5th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hoskin, who scored 40 points. Now that Velma Jackson knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
