Softball Recap: Baker Gets the Win

Baker won the last time they faced Mary G. Montgomery and things went their way on Thursday too. The Hornets had just enough and edged out the Vikings 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted against the Vikings since April 5, 2025.

KATLYN CONE spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Baker saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was MADALYN STUART, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.

Baker hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.

Baker has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8-1 record this season. As for Mary G. Montgomery, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-12.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Baker will welcome St. Paul's Episcopal at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mary G. Montgomery, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bryant at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
