Softball Recap: Niles Comes Up Short

Niles extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 2-12. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mishawaka Cavemen. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavemen apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2019.

As for Mishawaka, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games.

For Mishawaka's part, they let Shea Crawford and Karmen Frazier run wild. Crawford got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Frazier went 3-for-5 with one home run and two runs. Millie Bultinck was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Niles will challenge Vicksburg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mishawaka, they will square off against Warsaw at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.92 runs per game on average), something the Cavemen will no doubt try to take advantage of.
