Basketball Game Preview: San Mateo Bearcats vs. Washington Huskies

The San Mateo Bearcats will head out on the road to square off against the Washington Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. San Mateo is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

On Friday, San Mateo was fully in charge, breezing past Capuchino 72-37. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while the Mustangs are ranked 921st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Washington was able to grind out a solid win over Irvington on Thursday, taking the game 79-70. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.

San Mateo better focus on containing Esean Johnson and Gianni Clark as the pair were huge in Washington's win. Johnson dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 assists, while Clark went 9 for 15 en route to 23 points. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Uynam Trinh, who posted nine points.

San Mateo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.9 points per game. As for Washington, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4.
