Basketball Preview: Mesquite Wildcats vs. American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North Eagles
The Mesquite Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mesquite comes in on three and the Eagles on ten.
Last Wednesday, everything came up roses for Mesquite at home against the Padres as the squad secured a 76-47 win. Given Mesquite's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Padres are ranked 192nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mesquite found their leader in underclassman Desean Middlebrook, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Jamar Trotter, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, even though Eastmark scored an imposing 57 points on Wednesday, American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North still came out on top. American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North came out on top in a nail-biter against the Firebirds and snuck past 60-57.
Mesquite is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North, they pushed their record up to 18-4 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Mesquite came up short against the Eagles in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, falling 73-68. Can Mesquite avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
