Softball Recap: Riverdale Comes Up Short

Riverdale extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 7-12. They came up short against the Liberty-Benton Eagles, falling 10-0. Considering the last time the Falcons couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

As for Liberty-Benton, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.

For Liberty-Benton's part, Megan Gerken made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Gerken has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Liberty-Benton got a massive performance out of Kylie Modd, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Modd has hit this season. Carley Schwab was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverdale will welcome McComb at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Liberty-Benton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Allen East at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.37 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
