Football Game Preview: Maynard Tigers vs. Clinton Gaels

The Maynard Tigers are taking a road trip to challenge the Clinton Gaels at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Maynard has given up an average of 34.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, Maynard lost to St. Bernard's Central Catholic at home by a 44-28 margin. While the Tigers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Bernardians 13-6.

Meanwhile, Clinton hadn't done well against West Boylston/Tahanto recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Gaels' defense stepped up to hand the Lions a 6-0 shutout. The six-point effort marked the Gaels' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Clinton pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 2.0 points on average over those games. As for Maynard, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Maynard was taken down by Clinton 48-18 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Gaels' Taetum Cassella, who rushed for 195 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries.
