The Newport Grizzlies will challenge the Priest River Spartans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Priest River took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Newport, who comes in off a win.
Newport is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Kettle Falls on Saturday as they made off with a 15-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Grizzlies.

Lili Hall made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Bella Boyd was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Flavi Stutzman, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Newport hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Priest River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Orofino, falling 41-4.
Priest River saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Dixon, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Dixon also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.
Priest River's loss dropped their record down to 0-7-1. As for Newport, their record is now 4-5.
Priest River's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Newport hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. It's a different story for Priest River, though, as they've only averaged .160. Will they be able to contain Newport's hitters?
Newport took their victory against Priest River in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 23-5 score. Do the Grizzlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
