Softball Game Preview: Mercer County Golden Eagles vs. Monmouth-Roseville Titans

The Mercer County Golden Eagles will challenge the Monmouth-Roseville Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mercer County has three straight wins, Monmouth-Roseville has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Mercer County earned an 8-4 victory over Orion.

Elsie Cook made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Ruggles, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Mercer County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April.

Meanwhile, Monmouth-Roseville lost 12-2 to Macomb on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Titans have lost by exactly ten runs.

Monmouth-Roseville's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Mercer County, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.
