Baseball Game Preview: Landrum Cardinals vs. Polk County Wolverines

The Landrum Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Polk County Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Landrum will be strutting in after a win while Polk County will be coming in after a loss.

Landrum hadn't beaten Blacksburg on the road since March 30, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. Landrum put the hurt on Blacksburg with a sharp 14-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won six games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Polk County fell victim to Burns and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 6-0. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Polk County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gunnar Alm, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Alm is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

The win made it two in a row for Landrum and bumps their season record up to 7-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 13.5 runs. As for Polk County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Landrum took their victory against Polk County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Landrum since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
