Basketball Game Preview: Urban Blues vs. Moreau Catholic Mariners

The Urban Blues will square off against the Moreau Catholic Mariners at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Urban is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They came out on top against Maria Carrillo by a score of 53-40.

Meanwhile, Moreau Catholic entered their tilt with Head-Royce on Wednesday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They claimed a resounding 88-47 win over the Jayhawks. Given the Mariners' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Jayhawks are ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Urban better keep an eye on Kellen Hampton. He was instrumental in Moreau Catholic's win, shooting 4-for-7 from long range and dropping a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds. Hampton's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 26 points. Dominic Walker was another key player, going 7-for-11 to rack up 19 points.

Moreau Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.

Moreau Catholic pushed their record up to 22-5 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.5 points over those games. As for Urban, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season.
