Softball Game Preview: Colon Magi vs. Mendon Hornets

Colon is 2-7 against Mendon since June of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Magi will welcome the Hornets at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

On Tuesday, Colon made easy work of Bellevue and carried off a 16-10 victory.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mendon). They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Climax-Scotts on Tuesday. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Rowan Allen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Mendon got a big performance out of Mattea Bingaman, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Samson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Mendon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mendon's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Colon, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
