Baseball Recap: New Richmond Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

It was a proper cat-fight when New Richmond faced off against Clark Montessori on Tuesday. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Cougars 3-1.

Lucas Sheppard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because New Richmond is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, New Richmond secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Ethan Taggart, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Taggart is becoming a predictor of the Lions' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

New Richmond's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-7. As for Clark Montessori, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Looking ahead, New Richmond will challenge Goshen at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Clark Montessori, they will take on St. Bernard-Elmwood Place at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
